Questions & Answers
Q: What kind of velocity can I expect out of a carbine length barrel?

A: Ammo.com list the S&B 158SP@ 1263FPS @ 560ftlbs energy they don't show FPS for the S&B 158LFN. That's pretty much my go to place to find out muzzle velocity & energy on pretty much any brand or caliber ammo. Beside the brand and caliber there's a place that says more info, click on this and it generally gives you all the information about the FPS & Muzzle Energy. They would generally base the info for a 357Mag load on a pistol with a standard barrel length, so a carbine rifle 18" will probably give another 100-200Fps. I'm not a ballistics expert but every inch of barrel length adds more velocity unless it is hand loaded for a specific barrel length. Shorter barrels use faster burning powder than a bullet hand loaded for a longer barrelled carbine so the burn rate would be slower to allow for complete and efficient powder burn.

A: Steve, a carbine length barrel will give you a nice boost of approximately 450 to 500fps yielding about 1700fps for this load.

A: With my chrono I show nearly 1600 FPS out of my 16 inch barrel.
