Well the shipping was...
Well the shipping was fast and Bud's keeps me informed . The only down side is the front sight is in bad condition . Red ramp twisted and the metal part is crutch to the left in a very obvious way . But they gave me a good price and a $15.00 coupon so is worth it and I'm planning to put some Hi Viz sights anyway. I cut send it back I know Bud's will take care of me but to me is not a big deal and won't change my plans. Still a Bud's costumer all the way very satisfied.

Bought two of the 686+...
Bought two of the 686+ for the wife and myself. She prefers the revolver to a semi-auto and .38s are "fun" to shoot. Anything that works to get her on the range and practicing is fine by me. I highly recommend this firearm, just wish there was an option to buy a model without the internal lock as you can with certain other Smiths.

Questions & Answers
Q: even smiths web site doesn't say... is this a round butt or square butt ? thanks
Author: Charles K.
(6) ANSWERS
A: I would say square butt simply because all the round butt S&W revolvers I've seen or handled over the years have a different grip shape at the bottom, being more rounded. Other than that, the only I could recommend is calling S&W and asking.

Q: Does this model have a case hardened hammer and trigger or are they MIM parts?
Author: Kelly M.
(3) ANSWERS
A: Kelly, I am 99% sure MIM Parts are used Sir. S&W still have MIM parts sentt to their heat treat facility for hardening and in the case of hammers and triggers, case hardening. I would get a definitive answer from Smith and Wesson Customer Service at 1-800-331-0852 Mon-Fri 8:00AM-6:00PM Eastern Time.

A: Kelly, My 686-6 has MIM trigger and hammer. The gun is warranted for life. Can swap out the trigger to old style case hardened trigger, but not the hammer. S&W MIM parts show no more of a failure rate than case hardened non-MIM parts.
Author: Michael W.
A: Kelly, All the newer Smith & Wesson revolvers, and those with the on-board lock are all running MIM triggers and hammers. The last case hardened triggers and hammers ended in 1997.

Q: Is the Pro mod 60 cut for moon clips?
Author: Michael F.
(1) ANSWER
A: Michael, the Un-Fluted Cylinder is not cut for moon clips.

Q: I own this gun and it is definitely a round butt. Previous question refers to it as a square butt. Are they using both frames for the 3-5-7 series?
Author: Rodger B.
(2) ANSWERS
A: Rodger, from my understanding the square butt was dropped from the 686 in 1996. The 686+ 7 shot was introduced in 1996, so all 686+ have a round butt. You could contact smith and Wesson at 1-800-331-0852 Mon-Fri 8:00AM-5:00PM or email them at ( qa@smith-wesson.com ) to double check but almost positive they're all round butt. Hope this helps.
Author: Josh T.
A: Rodger, the old 686's had square butts, the newer ones have rounded butts. They changed from square butt to round butt in the mid 1990's. The question was from 2018, obviously no one did their homework before answering. Have a great day!
