Buying a Gun Online

Purchasing a gun online is really, very easy. We have sold thousands online since creating budsgunshop.com back in 2003.

There are three simple steps to purchasing a firearm with us:

  1. Find the gun you want: Shop our site and select the firearm you would like to purchase. You pay us directly for the firearm. (Click HERE for payment options)
  2. Choose your FFL (Federal Firearms License) dealer: We cannot ship a gun direct to you, we do ship to the local FFL dealer of your choice. Any legitimate gun store or gun dealer has an FFL license; pawn shops and collectors may also have them. Please see the steps below to arrange shipment to your preferred FFL dealer.
  3. Pick up your gun: Inspect your gun before accepting the transfer. Upon inspection of your gun if you find any defects leave the gun at the dealer and alert us right away. We will have it picked up for free and offer you an exchange or refund your purchase at no cost.

Arranging Shipment / Transfer of Firearm

  1. Find a licensed FFL dealer in your area. (Click HERE for FFL dealers already on file)
  2. Contact the dealer and let them know you would like to receive a firearm for transfer from budsgunshop.com.
  3. Be sure to ask about their FFL transfer fee, commonly around $25 but varies by state.
  4. If you agree to their fee, arrange the transfer with your FFL dealer. (We do not arrange the transfer)
  5. Provide your dealer with our mailing address or toll free fax number where they can send a copy of their FFL (if not already on file).
  6. Once you have selected an FFL for your transfer, please indicate the dealers name (name on the FFL) on your order so we know where to ship your firearm.

Tips to Speed Up Your Order

  • If choosing an FFL dealer not already on file, please type the dealers name in the COMMENTS section of your order. Please include your ORDER NUMBER on any correspondence you or your FFL may send us.
  • It is best to locate a FFL dealer to transfer your gun before you place your order. However, you can place your order first and then provide us with your FFL dealer info before we ship. We will hold your order for about 7 business days to give you time to locate a dealer and arrange a transfer.
  • If you have questions or concerns please contact us. We will be happy to address your concerns.

VERY IMPORTANT

Once the firearm is ready to be picked up at your FFL, please INSPECT THE FIREARM THOROUGHLY to make sure it is exactly what you ordered and that there are no defects with the firearm. If there are any problems whatsoever, DO NOT ACCEPT THE TRANSFER! We will gladly have the firearm picked up and returned to us at our expense and provide you with your choice of a replacement or full refund.

Once you accept the transfer, the gun is considered used and must be returned directly to the manufacturer for warranty repair or replacement. Any returns to budsgunshop.com AFTER accepting the transfer from your dealer you MAY be charged a restocking fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Orders and Payment Processing

  • How do I know if I can legally purchase a firearm?

Before you're able to take possession of your firearm from your dealer you'll be required to pass a background check. This is a fairly simple process. You'll fill out the below form and your dealer will call the information in to FBI NICS. Typically, while your dealer is on the phone he'll receive one of the following responses - approved, delayed, or denied. Please check your state and local regulations as well, several states/locals have additional requirements.

  • Why does my Customer information have to match?

Due to firearm regulations the Customer name must be the intended recipient of the firearm, meaning no one can pick up the firearm but you - the actual purchaser. If this information doesn't match, your order can be delayed or canceled with fees. Simply put, no one can accept transfer of a firearm except you, the actual buyer.

If you would like to purchase a gift for someone, please purchase a gift card from our website. You will be able to access a printable copy from your Bud's account or email it directly to your intended recipient. Then, the person you are purchasing the gift card for can apply the gift card code to their account, under their name.

  • Why is my credit card charged when I placed my order, but my order still has not been shipped?

All orders paid via credit card are processed immediately by a secure third party when you hit "confirm". Our credit card processing has the highest level of security options available. Our third party processor checks: complete credit card number, expiration date, CVV (3 or 4 digit security code), and the registered credit card billing address.

If any of these items are incorrect, your order will not process and you will not receive an order confirmation email. We must confirm your credit card information is correct before we can proceed to process your order, which is why your card is charged when you hit "confirm".

  • Why has my credit card been charged multiple times for only one order?

All orders paid via credit card are processed immediately by a secure third party when you hit "confirm". Our credit card processing has the highest level of security options available. Our third party processor checks: complete credit card number, expiration date, CVV (3 or 4 digit security code), and the registered credit card billing address.

If any of these items are incorrect, your order will not process and you will not receive an order confirmation email. However, by attempting to enter the incorrect information multiple times, your credit card company will put a hold on those funds against your available credit limit. If you attempt to enter the incorrect info five times, your credit card company will placed a hold for each of those attempts. The funds are eventually released, usually within 72 hours, without incurring any fees, by your credit card company. This is a fraud protection measure of your credit card company and has nothing to do with budsgunshop.com. We are not holding your funds and do not have the ability to release them for you. We suggest you contact your credit card company directly to clear up these issues.

  • Do you accept PayPal?

Unfortunately, we are not able to accept PayPal. PayPal refuses to process payments for firearms or ammunition. Per their web site:

We don't allow PayPal members to buy or sell any kind of firearm, whether it's in working order or not. The same goes for certain firearm parts and ammunition.

For example, using PayPal, you can't buy or sell:

    • Any firearm, including rifles, shotguns, and handguns, whether they're for sport and recreation, collectibles, or curio or relic firearms.
    • Firearm parts, including but not limited to receivers and frames, silencers, and kits designed to modify guns so that they fire automatically. High capacity magazines, multi-burst trigger activators, and camouflaging firearm containers are other items in this category.
    • Ammunition, including propellants like gunpowder or blank ammunition; ammunition or cartridge cases; and primers, bullets, or propellant powder designed for any firearm.

Purchasing

  • What is an NFA Firearm, and how do I purchase one?

    What is an NFA Firearm?
NFA (National Firearms Act) items are firearms and accessories regulated under the National Firearms Act of 1934. These include suppressors (silencers), short-barreled rifles (SBRs), short-barreled shotguns (SBSs), machine guns, destructive devices, and "any other weapons" (AOWs).

    How to Purchase NFA Items:
As a licensed Class III dealer, we can sell NFA items directly to qualified consumers. The process involves:

    1. Verify Eligibility: Ensure NFA items are legal in your state and locality. Some states prohibit or restrict certain NFA items.
    2. Complete ATF Form 4: This "Application for Tax Paid Transfer and Registration of Firearm" must be completed accurately.
    3. Submit Required Documents: Provide fingerprints, photographs, and notify your local chief law enforcement officer.
    4. Pay Federal Tax: A $200 federal tax stamp is required for most NFA items (some AOWs require only $5).
    5. Wait for Approval: ATF processing times vary but typically take several months. You cannot take possession until approved.
    6. Transfer Through Class III Dealer: The item must be transferred through a licensed dealer with the appropriate Special Occupational Tax (SOT).

Disclaimer: This information is for general guidance only. Always consult with qualified legal counsel and verify current federal, state, and local laws before purchasing NFA items. Laws and regulations are subject to change.

Shipping

  • How much does shipping cost?

Firearms ship FREE at budsgunshop.com. This excludes hand guns & long guns shipping to AK, HI, and US Territories. Whenever possible, we will combine shipping for multiple small accessories on the same order. However, because certain accessories can be drop shipped from various warehouses, the shipping rates may increase. Optional shipping insurance is available at checkout. budsgunshop.com is not responsible for uninsured items lost or damaged in transit. If you would like to review the total shipping charges for your order, click "checkout" to preview the order. You can preview the order including the ship to address, and the shipping charge before you click to confirm your order. The shipping and handling charge covers the cost of standard shipping. We do NOT ship to PO Boxes.

  • Can you ship my firearm directly to me at my home or office?

No, all firearms must be shipped to a verified FFL (Federal Firearm License) holder. The only exceptions are some black powder firearms, and then only to approved states.

  • What is an FFL?

A "FFL" is a Federal Firearm License. There are currently over 58,000 FFL holders nationwide. FFL holders are commonly gun stores, pawn shops, and retail sporting goods stores. However, there are also many individuals that hold a FFL. All firearms sold to individuals online must be shipped to a local FFL holder who will then transfer the firearm (via ATF form 4473 and associated background check) to the individual.

  • How do I arrange to have a local FFL handle my transfer?

You can simply choose a local FFL from our list, or we can add your preferred local FFL to our list by simply having them fax us a copy of their FFL to (800) 804-5569. Please communicate with your chosen FFL prior to completing your purchase with us. You will want to ask for their approval of the transfer as well as their transfer fee.

  • What is the average FFL transfer fee?

Although the transfer fee varies widely among the +58,000 FFL holders nationwide, the average fee tends to be around $25. For their exact transfer fee, please contact your chosen FFL directly.

  • Why are the firearms shipped "within 3 to 7 business days" of completing my order?

Our firearms are located throughout our warehouses by make and model. We normally process and ship handguns more quickly than long guns due to their proximity to our shipping department and ease of handling. We also keep all firearms with highest sales volume closest to the shipping department to expedite processing and shipping. We commit to ship all firearms within 7 business days of completing your order. However, our goal is always to ship ASAP.

  • I'm a Team Buds member, why didn't my order ship the next day?

Unfortunately, not all of our items are set up for Fast Track shipping. If an item is eligible for next business day shipping it will be designated as such with a large Fast Track symbol under the 'Add To Cart' button on the item's listing. To be eligible, Fast Track orders must be placed by 12:00 PM EST, be paid with a credit card and ship to an FFL dealer we already have on file. Adding items which are not Fast Track to the same order may negate Fast Track shipping.

Pricing

  • I used my debit card to purchase online, why did I not get the "cash discount"?

Most debit cards are also credit cards. As we do not have the option to accept debit cards and associated personal PIN numbers, your debit/credit card can only be run as a credit on budsgunshop.com. Giving out your debit card personal PIN on even the most secure websites is never a good idea.

  • I just bought a gun from you guys and now the advertised price is less than what I paid. What's up?

Our website updates every 20 minutes, 24/7, with our current inventory and replacement cost. We do not price our guns manually based on our cost in each, rather we use a live download from manufacturers and distributors to set our price based on our current replacement cost. As our cost changes, the corresponding website price of each make/model will change up/down accordingly. Although our profit margin remains unchanged, our advertised prices will change frequently, sometimes several times per day.

  • Do you price match?

We do accept requests to price match. Submit your Price Match Request via the Price Match Request button on eligible items. If we are able to match a price, we will let you know immediately and you can proceed to checkout at that price. If we can't match it, we will let you know what we can accept. Keep in mind, we ship firearms for FREE, so factor that into your total price when comparing our prices with other firearms retailers. Accessories shipping is also optimized when multiple accessories are purchased within the same order, and FREE on many accessory orders of $199 or more.

Returns

  • There is a problem with one of my items, what is your return policy?

Our return policy allows for item(s) return and your choice of a full refund or replacement item(s). However, we do have a couple simple requirements for processing a return.

    1. Firearms: It is solely the customers responsibility to thoroughly inspect the firearm(s) at the FFL prior to accepting the transfer. If there is a noticeable defect of any kind to the firearm, or associated case/contents, please simply refuse the transfer and we will arrange to have the firearm returned to us, at our expense, and issue the customer a full refund or replacement firearm if available. If the customer accepts the transfer from the FFL, we can then only refer the customer to the manufacturer for warranty consideration.
    2. Accessories: ALL accessories found to be defective immediately upon receipt, must be returned to budsgunshop.com in KY for refund or replacement. Please contact us and we will immediately arrange for a prepaid UPS label to be emailed to you for the return of the defective item at our expense. Some accessories are shipped factory direct. If you take it upon yourself to return items to the factory, it is very possible that we will not receive credit for those items and therefore will not be able to issue you credit/replacement.

Website

  • How do I reset my password?

Click here and fill out the form to have a new password sent to the email address you used to setup your account.

  • I completed the password reset form and I am not getting an email. What should I do?

This issue may occur when your email provider's security settings prevent our messages from reaching your inbox. To resolve this, we recommend the following steps:

    1. Add sales@budsgunshop.com to your email address book or safe sender list
    2. Request a new password reset after completing step one
    3. Please ensure you are checking the email account associated with your account registration
These steps should ensure you receive our correspondence without any delivery issues.

  • How do I change the email address for my account?

Click here to change your email address.
  • How do I review my purchases?

Click here to view your order history.
  • How can I view and edit my "Wishlist" items?

Click here to view and edit your wishlist.

General

  • I just received my new gun. It looks used, as if it's been fired, what's up?

Many new firearms are test fired at the factory. You may notice residual powder, rotation marks on revolver cylinders, residual cosmoline which sometimes appears to look like rust, etc. All firearms sold as "new" are in fact new in box as received from the manufacturer or distributor and include new manufacturers warranty... no exceptions.

Any used, factory refurbished, refurbished pre-owned, show guns, or guns in any other condition than new in box will be clearly marked as such on the website.

  • Do you offer discounts to Military and Law Enforcement Officers?

Yes! We do offer Military, Law Enforcement and other Qualified Professional discounts. Available "QP" products are listed in the Store Directory on the left hand side of the web site. Please see HERE for a complete list of those who qualify.

  • Can I purchase Bud's Supplemental Limited Lifetime Warranty for new and used guns?

You sure can! The full details of this warranty are located under the warranty heading in our information box on the bottom left-hand side of our web page.

  • What is the Buds Community?

A place where customers can share their vast wealth of firearms knowledge among each other with answers vetted by the community.

  • I'm interested in working at Buds. How do I apply?

We appreciate your interest in joining the Bud's team. If there's an opening, positions are posted on job sites such as Indeed, LinkedIn, Zip Recruiter, and Facebook. We are looking for qualified staff and any firearms knowledge/experience is a plus, but not required. Please apply to the appropriate position that you're interested in via it's respective ad. As well, we do not accept unsolicited phone calls about the application process.

State Restrictions

Ammunition Credentials

Some ammunition orders require credential documents before checkout can continue. This applies when your shipping address is in Illinois, Connecticut, Washington D.C., New Jersey, Massachusetts, or Rhode Island.

You can move through checkout normally and choose your shipping address. If your order falls under one of those states, we will automatically redirect you to the document instructions you need before checkout can continue.

  • Illinois orders require a FOID card or Illinois concealed carry license, plus an Illinois driver license or Illinois state ID.
  • New Jersey orders require a state-issued ammunition credential, plus a New Jersey driver license or state ID.
  • Connecticut, Washington D.C., Massachusetts, and Rhode Island orders require one accepted ammunition credential.

After your documents are uploaded, you can still continue with your order while they are pending review. We only ship after someone on our team verifies them manually, and we will reach out if anything else is needed.

Shipping a Firearm - FFL's and Transfer of Ownership

budsgunshop.com will ONLY transfer ownership of a firearm to individuals or agencies in possession of a valid Federal Firearms License (FFL). This means we cannot ship directly to you unless you are an FFL holder (Click HERE to learn how to have a gun shipped near you). If you do not hold a valid FFL, budsgunshop.com will transfer your purchased firearm to your choice of a licensed gun dealer in your state. It is your responsibility:

  • to ensure that a firearm is legal to own in your state. Click HERE to view State Restrictions.
  • to contact the FFL if they're a non preferred dealer. budsgunshop.com preferred dealers will take any/all of our shipments without prior contact.
  • to complete all required paperwork when you pick up your purchase from your local dealer.

Be aware that it is customary for your local dealer to charge a transfer fee at the time you pick up your purchase. The fee shown is the last transfer fee reported by the dealer. Actual fees may vary if the dealer has updated pricing. This fee is strictly between you and your local dealer. Please check with your local dealer concerning their current policies and fee structure. You do not pay budsgunshop.com the transfer fee. The buyer is responsible for contacting their transferring FFL to request they send a copy of their FFL to us. If you are using a Buds Preferred FFL dealer, we will already have the FFL on file. Our contact information is as follows:

EACH ENTRANT UNDERSTANDS AND AGREES THAT ALL RIGHTS UNDER SECTION 1542 OF THE CIVIL CODE OF CALIFORNIA AND ANY SIMILAR LAW OF ANY STATE OR TERRITORY OF THE USA ARE HEREBY EXPRESSLY WAIVED BY HIM/HER. SECTION 1542 READS AS FOLLOWS:

“A GENERAL RELEASE DOES NOT EXTEND TO CLAIMS THAT THE CREDITOR OR RELEASING PARTY DOES NOT KNOW OR SUSPECT TO EXIST IN HIS OR HER FAVOR AT THE TIME OF EXECUTING THE RELEASE AND THAT, IF KNOWN BY HIM OR HER, WOULD HAVE MATERIALLY AFFECTED HIS OR HER SETTLEMENT WITH THE DEBTOR OR RELEASED PARTY.”

Drawing and Notification

All potential Prize Winners will be selected in twelve (12) random drawings from among all eligible entries received by the Administrator, whose decisions are final and binding. There will be one (1) Prize drawing per Entry Period. There will be one (1) potential Prize Winner selected in each Prize drawing. Odds of winning a Prize will depend on the total number of eligible entries received DURING THE ENTRY PERIOD IN QUESTION. Note: Entries will not carry over into the subsequent Entry Periods. All potential Prize Winners will be contacted by the Administrator or Sponsor via phone, email and/or a USPS mail package of prize confirmation.

Prizes & Prize Conditions

There will be twelve (12) Prizes available. Each Prize Winner (“Winner”) will receive a firearm valued up to $1,999 (“Prize”). Total Prize Pool - $23,988. The Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to substitute the Prize with another prize of equal or greater value. LIMIT ONE (1) PRIZE PER ENTRANT.

All other expenses associated with Prize acceptance or usage not specifically mentioned herein are the responsibility of the Winner. The Prize will be awarded in “AS-IS” condition. Substitution, assignment or transfer of a Prize is not permitted, except by Sponsor, who reserves the right to substitute the Prize with another of equal or greater value. The Prize has no cash surrender value, except where required by law. If the Prize is not currently legal in the state of residence of the selected Winner but can be made legal with modifications performed by a licensed FFL, or with modified parts, such as reduced capacity magazines, it will be the responsibility of the Winner to make those adjustments necessary.

Additional Prize Conditions

By accepting a Prize, each Winner agrees to release and hold harmless the Released Parties from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the Sweepstakes or receipt or use of the Prize. Each Winner is solely responsible for all matters relating to their Prize after it is awarded. If a Prize or Prize notification is returned as unclaimed or undeliverable to the potential winner, if a potential Winner cannot be reached or does not comply with notification instructions within three (3) business days from the first notification attempt, if a potential Winner fails to return requisite document(s) within the specified time period, or if a potential Winner is not in compliance with these Official Rules, then such person shall be disqualified and, at Sponsor's sole discretion, an alternate Winner may be selected.

The Sponsor will ship the Grand Prize to a valid Federal Firearms Licensee in the U.S. selected by the approved Winner. The Winner is responsible for providing the Sponsor with a copy of the Federal Firearm License of the retailer to which the Winner would like the Prize shipped. The firearm transfers must be in compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations and will be subject to the requirements, policies and procedures of the chosen Federal Firearms Licensee for delivery. If a Winner is unable to complete the firearm transfer because the firearm is not legally available for transfer or sale in his or her state or locale, the Sponsor may elect to substitute a prize of equal value. If a Winner is unable to complete the firearm transfer due to a failure of the required background check or other failure to meet the requirements of the Federal Firearms Licensee, the Prize will be forfeited and returned to Sponsor at Sponsor's sole expense and the Winner will be disqualified. In the event of noncompliance with these requirements, the Prize may be forfeited. The Sponsor is not responsible, and the Winner is solely responsible for the costs incurred to travel to pick up the Prize and/or any other costs and fees associated with the transfer of the Prize, including any amounts charged by the Federal Firearms Licensee to complete the transfer. The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to void entries of any Entrant who is or may be ineligible to accept transfer of a firearm in his or her state or locale.

By accepting the Prize, where permitted by law, the Winner grants to the Released Parties and those acting pursuant to the authority of Sponsor and the Released Parties (which grant will be confirmed in writing upon Sponsor's request), the right to print, publish, broadcast and use worldwide IN ALL MEDIA without limitation at any time their full name, portrait, picture, voice, likeness and/or biographical information for advertising, trade and promotional purposes without further payment or additional consideration, and without review, approval or notification. The Winner also acknowledges that Released Parties have neither made nor are in any manner responsible or liable for any warranty, representation, or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to the Prize.
