Hornady Critical Defense .410 Gauge ammunition is built for defensive patterns with the unique Triple Defense projectile stack, combining Hornady Flex Tip expansion with solid terminal performance. This 2 1/2in load uses an FXT FTX slug design that feeds reliably and brings the slug into engagement with the barrel’s rifling for nose-on impact and expansion.

Q: does the firearm need rifling to use this ammo?

A: No it does not need rifling however it will be more accurate with a Rifled barrel but at self defense distances it will be fine

A: Kris, it does not. This ammunition will be accurate enough for reliable hits up to 50ft in a handgun and 50yrds in a long gun with out rifling. Rifling of course will increase the accuracy range.
