This old round is...
This old round is still awesome, and my favorite round for the .280 Remington! These are 15 grains heavier than the .270, they do not recoil like a 7mm rem mag, and get the job done at 2,820 fps! I am seeing 2,860-2,880 fps out of my 25" replacement barrel! These hit targets out to 600+ yards, and you can easily hunt anything up to Mule Deer, or Black Bear with them at 400+ yards! These have been around for a long time in this old green box for a reason! They are just the perfect Mule Deer/Whitetail Deer round!

Questions & Answers
Q: I have an opportunity to get a nice Remington rifle in 280 cal. I already have a 243 Browning BLR. should I wait for a 30.06? or go for the 300 WSM. I also look at ammo pricing since I do not reload my ammo. Any advise. regards, Ben

A: I would Jump on the 280 "The .280 Remington is capable of developing energy nearly equal to the .30-06 Springfield, but with lighter bullets having a better ballistic coefficient. The .30-06 produces more energy than the .280 with bullets heavier than 180 grains, though .284" 175 grain bullets have a high sectional density of .310, compared to the 30-06 180 grain bullet with a moderate sectional density of .271. The .280 is suitable for hunting any game in North America with good shot placement.' ammo prices are about the same the only real advantage of the 30.06 is the wider range of ammo available and that the ammo can be found almost anywhere

A: Ben, Buy them all. Get the .280 if it is in good shape and a value. Get your .30-06 when you find a deal on a nice one. Can never have too many nice bolt guns. If the .280 is a deal look at it as an investment. I am not a fan of the 300 WSM.
