I just finished...

I just finished installing Tru-Glo TFX TG13RS2A sights on my Ruger LC9S pistol. I purchased them from BudsGunShop.com because they offer them for $104, which was the best price that I found. Shipping was $11 (including insurance) but delivery was slow. I only live about a two hour drive from Bud's but it took ten days to receive them. For installation I decided not to use punches on my expensive TFXs so I purchased a Handgun Sight Pusher Tool from eBay seller "4x4machineshop". I purchased the $50 "Pro" version that has extra blocks for odd slide shapes but I didn't use any of the extra blocks so, in my case, the standard $40 Handgun Sight Pusher Tool would been all that I needed. Oh well, I have the extra blocks should the need arise. I decided to buy my own sight pusher because they would pay for themselves with one gunsmith install and then I'd have them for additional future installs. I've installed sights for many years using punches but never $100+ sights with glass tubes inside them! Removing the old LC9S sights was very easy. The rear sight fell out once I loosened the set screw. I punched out the front sight retaining pin with a punch made from a flattened nail. The pin was smaller than my smallest real punch. Once I chucked the slide into the Handgun Sight Pusher Tool the front sight slipped out like it was buttered - so, also easy. I installed the TruGlo TFX Front Sight first. I wanted it to insert half-way before I used the Handgun Sight Pusher Tool so it took over a dozen strokes on a file to get the sight bottom to the point that the sight would slide half-way in. Then, using the Handgun Sight Pusher Tool it slid easily into place. Well, to be truthful I pushed it tad too far and had to back it out a bit to center the sight. Installing the TruGlo TFX Rear Sight surprised me in that it took a bit longer to install than did the front sight. It took more strokes on the file but then it is a larger surface area so it would naturally take longer. Once I got the rear sight bottom to the point that the sight would slide half-way in it easily slid into place with the pusher tool. A little blue Loctite on the front sight and I was done. I estimate my total work time (not counting diversions) at about 30-minutes. The sight picture is great with a vastly improved front sight. It is very bright in daylight but the darkness glow is dimmer than I had expected. You can certainly see them in the dark but the brightness is nowhere near that of the day-glow feature.
