I am not going to do a long review as the one below but I just received this very well made Cimarron Model No.3 American and took out for some shooting. It has a fantastic finish and very well fitted and it shoots on the money at 25 yards, The trigger pull is crisp at about 4 lbs and the break open works very well. I have fired around 100 rounds with no problem and no problem with cylinder scaring or marks. This is a well made by Uberti for Cimarron and they made sure it is true to the original as possible. Don't let a bad review stop you from getting this great piece of shooting history. This has the U.S. marking on top of barrel along with the original style patent dates and just can't find any faults with this pistol. Waited a long time for a American model not the Schofield version, simple, you will not be disappointed with this one at all :)

TL;DR: Beautiful...
TL;DR: Beautiful piece, questionable QC. YMMV depending on the individual firearm you receive. Folks at Cimarron are helpful. Great warranty, if you're patient. To start off, this is a very beautiful reproduction. It absolutely captures the appearance and feel of the original made in the 1870s. All the details, right down to the Smith and Wesson maker's markings on the barrel, definitely show the dedication that Uberti and Cimarron have for these reproductions (I say Uberti as it is made in Italy and imported to the States through Cimarron). Also, a heads up for anyone thinking that Schofield replacement grips will fit on the American, they do not use the same grip panels. Not necessarily a negative, just something to keep in mind. So for initial aesthetics, it was excellent. However, from a technical standpoint, my experience with this particular model was sub-par. Within the first day, I noticed a few things that simply weren't sound with me. This revolver remained unfired while in my possession. The main pins that hold the trigger, cylinder stop, and ejector lever in the frame had worked themselves out of the frame after less than a few minutes of learning the revolver (I.E. cocking, opening and closing the action, etc..). These pins could also be pushed from one side of the frame to the other with just finger pressure. I was under the assumption that these pins would've been a reasonably tight press fit, given that they retain some of the most important parts/subsystems on the revolver. The barrel latch did not seem to function correctly. All other individuals that I have seen with/operating this type of barrel latch had a smooth sweep up and a quick, snappy return to the closed position via spring tension. This was not what I had happen. The latch was tight and seemed to have burrs or was mal-shaped as scratches formed on the barrel assembly upon opening. After unlocking the barrel assembly several times, a patch of bare steel was visible under the latch. The latch also would not return to the closed position and kept itself open, likely related to the previous issue. The finish on these also seems to be very thin, which is a frequent concern I hear about most Uberti revolvers. Cylinder line formed within a few full rotations. I called Cimarron about these concerns and they said they would take a look at it. Got a prepaid label from them and shipped it to Texas the next day, even though it would be approximately 3 months for their gunsmith to handle and inspect it. As of this review, currently about 3 weeks into the wait, so going to be looking forward to an email or call from Cimarron for an update in the next couple months. In conclusion: This is an 'article of one' potentially faulty revolver, others may not exhibit these issues. However, that doesn't make it any easier to say that I can't wholeheartedly recommend that someone purchase this particular model. If one still wants to purchase this genuinely beautiful revolver, just know you might be running a bit of a gamble with the concerns I have voiced above. The Cimarron warranty is great, but you will be waiting a while for a potential fix.

Beautiful fit and...
Beautiful fit and finish, but like some other Uberti sub companies, the metallurgy is maybe not quite as strong as hoped. Almost immediately as I opened it, it got a scratch in the finish, and the cylinder started grooving right away too. I have other single action firearms which don't show near as fast. Shoots a bit high as well. Very pleasing to shoot other then that.
