Questions & Answers
Q: What is the difference between single and double action?
Author: Paul R.
(4) ANSWERS
A: Paul, this is both a Single Action (thumb the hammer - fire) and Double Action (just pull the trigger). Double Action pulls are heavier and Single Action pulls are lighter. If this revolver was hammer less, it would be a double action only.
Author: James G.
A: Single action triggers only perform one action, they drop the hammer. Double action triggers perform two actions, they pull the hammer back and drop the hammer. Single actions good for target practice cause the triggers nice and light, since it's only performing one action. Double action triggers are good for defense when you don't have time to manually pull the hammer back, but the downsides a long heavy trigger cause it has all the pressure trying to pull the hammer back. Hope this helps.

A: The double action pull on this revolver is longer and heavier (around 10 pounds) the single action pull is shorter and lighter (5 pounds) Double action is safer for on body carry because it requires more and heavier trigger travel, but single action is better for precision shots due to the shorter lighter pull. Double Action is double because it both clocks the hammer and releases it, single action trigger pull is from an already cocked position, so all it does is release the hammer.

Q: Does this gun take +P ammo
Author: Dana G.
(5) ANSWERS
A: Yes all models of the 856 are listed as rated for +P on Taurus' website, https://www.taurususa.com/revolvers/see-all-revolvers?view=category&id=61
Author: Paul F.
A: Dana, yes Sir,the Taurus 856 is +P Rated so no worries. Cheers and stay safe!
Author: James G.
A: Yes, this will handle +p ammunition just fine. Manufacturers always recommend limited use since it can wear parts faster but it would take thousands of rounds to really notice a difference vs standard velocity ammo, especially being a revolver. Hope this helps.
Author: Josh T.
A: Dana, yes it will fire +P ammo. This quote comes straight from the owners manual -- "Even if your Taurus firearm is rated for Plus-P ("+P") ammunition, such ammunition generates pressures significantly in excess of the pressures associated with standard ammunition. Such pressures may affect the useful life of the firearm or exceed the margin of safety built into many firearms. Unless you need +P ammunition, do not use it, particularly for practice." -- Have a great day!
Author: Ed C.
A: yes it will handle +p ammo however I will tell you it is not pleasant to shoot with +p so I only use it for carry and shoot standard 38 special at the range

Q: Can you replace these grips?
Author: Jason P.
(3) ANSWERS
A: Jason, you sure can. Very simple to replace, just have to remove a roll pin towards the bottom of the grip. Most replacement grips use a screw to attach instead of the roll pin. If you Google ( Taurus 856 grips ) plenty of options. Hope this helps.
