In my experience, Taurus offers some of the best value for the features and quality given. I have large hands and the grips of this revolver fill my hand perfectly. The trigger has a smooth take-up and clean, crisp break. The action is clean and precise from the hammer pull to the cylinder release. The machining and tolerances are true. I wish it were a blued finish, but this black is attractive. I am trying to understand how other manufacturer's charge so much more for the same or inferior quality products. This is not the Taurus of 10 or 15 years ago. So much gun for the money! And Bud's (as usual) is boringly reliable. I used the ACH payment choice this time and saved even more money. An all around good purchase for me.

I was looking for an...
I was looking for an inexpensive, knock-around revolver and settled on this Taurus 82. I was apprehensive since I've never owned a Taurus and my research indicated dissatisfaction among some who purchased one. Don't believe the horror stories! First, the gun came looking less than stellar. I had to scrub it liberally with Ballistol and ran bore brushes through each chamber and barrel multiple times with lots of Ballistol. Then I had to do again the next day. Then she looked ready to play. Took it out to the back 80 and fired three types of .38 Specials starting at 7 yards shooting single-action. Hit the orange bullseye until there was no orange left. I was impressed. Then I went back 12 yards with very similar results. Just before leaving I took a couple 20 yard single-action shots and hit within a two inches of the orange bullseye. Fired 200 rounds without any issues. The spent casings drop right out when you open it. The gun has very little recoil - more like an angry 22 mag instead of a .38. Not a single hiccup mechanically. The gun isn't too pretty to toss in the Jeep, backpack, trunk, or tackle box. She ain't afraid of getting dinged or dirty. My only two complaints, and it's not a deal-breaker, is the double-action trigger pull is very stiff and the grip seems a bit long back-to-front. I'll have my gunsmith swap out a couple of springs and I'll hunt for better aftermarket grips. I bought this model because I don't like hard-kicking handguns (and I have several collecting dust) and the price was on the mark, too. When I went to check-out I purchased Bud's lifetime warranty for less than the cost of a good sandwich. Free repair, replacement, & shipping if the revolver ever fails. What's there to lose? Happy shootin'.

Questions & Answers
Q: Hi, what does +P 4" mean here? Thanks!
Author: Jinping S.
(5) ANSWERS
A: Plus P means "Plus pressure" which means (it is rated to handle) ammunition loaded to higher pressure for more velocity.
Author: James G.
A: I means the pistol is capable of firing ammunition with a +P designation which are higher pressure, faster, more powerful rounds. They should not be fired in a pistol not rated +P. The 4" refers to barrel length.
Author: Lynn N B.
A: Its rated for .38 special +p ammo but according to the manual it should not be used regularly. I like my Taurus 82 but I have never tried +p ammo in it. If you want to use +p ammo regularly you should probably get a .357 magnum and use .38 special +p ammo in it. A 357 magnum revolver can use either 357 magnum or 38 special ammo, but a 38 cannot use 357 magnum ammo.

A: The 38 special is loaded to low pressures (15,000 psi) to be safely fired in guns made 100 years ago and light duty revolvers made today. The +P 38's generate 21,000 psi and will harm the older guns and lighter revolvers. Being +P rated means it will fire the hotter loading.

A: More powerful rounds then normal. Some guns can handle them and some can't. Check your gun rating in the manual before using them.
