I've been wanting this...
I've been wanting this weapon since the 80's but being young couldn't afford $800 at the time. When I finally could afford it they were banned in CA! Moved outta CA and now I FINALLY have my dream weapon!!! I have fired the aluminimum model which is nice, but I highly recommend the all steel model like the one I have. Fired true out of the box when sighting in at 25yds, I was getting 50 cent piece groups. As with others, I had about five or six hangs with the first 30 round magazine, one or two with the second 30 round magazine. Since then, I have about 600 rounds through with ZERO hangs, still fires as true as when out of box. Shooting offhand at metal plates at 100 yards gives a VERY pleasant THUD.

Auto Ordnance...
Auto Ordnance Thompson. Always been on my list to buy. Buds had it significantly cheaper than other stores. This is NOT the lightweight one. It's all steel. The walnut is much darker than in my picture and in person matches with the dark wood in the stock photo. Since it's the TM1 model, it does not accept drum magazines. Overall very satisfied with the rifle. Shipping was fast. Initial plans were to swap the wood furniture for USGI but Im having a hard time parting with the quality of the wood that's on it. I will say it is VERY hard to charge the weapon at first. I left mine with the bolt locked back for a week and it seemed to help significantly.

A: Frederick, some members have reported that if magazine capacity is the ONLY state restriction that some Buds personnel have offered to remove/replace magazines. I would contact Buds Customer Service to see whether or not they will at the Blue Chat now button at the bottom right corner 9am to 9pm Mon - Sat and 9am to 7pm Sunday.

Q: Maybe this is obvious or a dumb question. Why does this Thompson have such a long barrel? Are there restrictions for how short the barrel can be?
Author: Logan R.
(4) ANSWERS
A: The barrel is only as long as it needs to be. Rifles have a minimum length of 16 inches before being considered a SBR that needs a tax stamp. Not sure if Thompson makes one without a buttstock and shorter barrel, that would be marketed as a pistol.
Author: Andrew B.
A: Logan, since this is a Pistol Caliber Carbine, it has to have a minimum of a 16 inch barrel to be classified as a Rifle/Carbine. Shorter than a 16 inch barrel would make it classified as a SBR (Short Barreled Rifle) and with a shoulder stock would need to be registered as an NFA Firearm and a $200 Tax Stamp paid.
Author: James G.
A: the barrel lenght restrictions only apply because it has a stock if one were to remove the stock and replace it with a stabilizing brace ypu could have any lenght barrel on that you wanted, without having to go through the atf to classify it as an SBR, because o ce the stock is removed and the barrel is short it is no longer a rifle but a pistol. The only time you'd have to SBR It is if the it has a stock and a barrel shorter the 16" or in it has any type of vertical forgrip forward of the magazine. Longer barrels can also be beneficial in that they give you a longer site radius making it easier to shoot accurately, and the longer travel down a rifled barrel will increase muzzle velocity, resulting in higher ft/lb force on impact, and a straighter, closer groups, and lower recoil.
Author: Paul F.
A: This gun is CLASSIFIED as a rifle and must have a minimum barrel length of 16 inches to NOT be considered as a Short Barrel Rifle (SBR). SBR requires additional stamp and approval from ATF to own or purchase. I hope this helps.
