The Savage 42 Takedown Compact is an over / under break-open combination rifle built for simple transport and compact storage. It chambers .22 Long Rifle on top and .410 gauge shotshells on the bottom, giving you two different uses in one platform. A one-button takedown design helps make packing and storage straightforward, while adjustable rifle sights can be removed to allow mounting a scope base.

This pales in...
This pales in comparison to the Savage 24. Time will tell on the polymer, 24 takedown is just as easy and seems more sturdy. Shoots fine and is shorter than the 24. The non-takedown 42 has held up to grandchildren use, so I'm hoping my concerns about the poly are not founded.
