I am very pleased with...
I am very pleased with the Iver Johnson Youth .410 single shot. The action was smooth and easy to open unlike my other two Turkish made shotguns which were very stiff and hard to open close until after much use. The wood had an attractive color and was of higher quality than expected with nice checkering. The wood finish was a little dull, but shined up nicely with Birchwood Casey Stock Sheen and Conditioner and a coat of Old English lemon oil. The shotgun has nice balance and a length of pull perfect for my young son who I am teaching to shoot sporting clays. Trigger pull weight was a little stiff, but appropriate for youngsters learning to shoot. No light triggers for them! The external hammer was a little hard for my son to cock, but not a big deal. Younger kids may need help with that. Pulling back on the trigger guard unlocks the breach. Shooters should be made aware of the possibility to have a finger pinched between a screw head and the rear of the trigger guard when pulling the trigger guard rearward to open the breach. It's easy to avoid if aware of it prior to use. I think this is a great gun in the youth model for young shooters wanting to hunt birds, squirrels, rabbits, etc, or to learn to shoot fairly close clays. Some kids are using .410s to hunt turkey. This one would work for that due to coming with a full choke. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of these for myself in the adult size if I didn't already have a .410. Overall, I'm very impressed with the quality, function, and appearance of this gun and would recommend it to others. I feel it is a great value for the price.
