As usual, Buds was...
As usual, Buds was very efficient with my purchase and delivery of this shotgun. I bought it for my wife after a lot of research online and Youtube. I needed something lighter and with a shorter length of pull than most of my other shotguns, but I did not want to spend north of 2K for a shotgun that would be used once or twice a year. I realized, of course, that a light gun could mean a mean recoil. It turned out to be not that bad, it recoils more like a slap on the cheekbone rather than a mule kick in the shoulder. But it is much less unpleasant than the M&P Silver Reserve's I used to own and had to sell because of its recoil. Overall, I am very happy with this O/U because it is light and short enough for my wife to go skeet-shooting with me, it is not expensive, it shoots very well, and it is very beautiful. To make recoil less unpleasant, we use a triangular shoulder pad for my wife and a LimbSaver recoil buttstock pad for me (which also makes length of pull longer, which is more comfortable for me). Overall, great value for money. We have made several trips to the range now and shot a little over 400 rounds through it with no problem. At some point, the forend started getting loose in the locked position, but I found the two screws that went loose inside the forend and put them on blue thread locker, now it is nice and tight.

I have wanted to buy...
I have wanted to buy and shoot an O/U shotgun since I was a young man. So after researching various makes and models, I decided to try a lower cost gun to see if I would even like it. I landed on the Savage 555E model for several reasons. The "E" model (enhanced) is a nice looking gun to start with and I've gotten quite a few compliments on it at the range. The wood to metal finish isn't what you'd find on a more expensive gun, but I was more concerned with function and shootability. The first time I picked it up it pointed perfectly for me which was a great relief, not ever having one in my hands before. The LOP is right at 14.5 inches and it weighed in at 6lb 4 ozs. I personally like the lightness of this gun as it doesn't produce a shooting fatigue issue and pointing with it is a breeze. Anticipating a harsher recoil than my SA's, I put an aftermarket recoil pad on it. I've only shot some 3 dram 1-1/8 oz 1290 fps target loads in it and can barely tell he difference between it and the SA's. The trigger does have quite a bit of slack in it before to the bottom of the trigger pull, but as I shoot it more, I don't notice it anymore. This "Enhanced" 555E model does have the "ejectors" vs the "extractors". It pops the empty shell out the fired barrel(s) quite handily. The safety on this model "does not" return to safe automatically when opened. I'd rather it did. The "0" convergence of the two barrels seems to be set at about 25 yds (which can vary among O/U's). The center of the barrels are about 7/8 of an inch apart. At 32 yds, the center of the bottom barrel is about 1.5 inches higher than the center of the top barrel. Some people seem to have trouble with this type barrel convergence (which is somewhat apparent in all O/U's) but I dusted clay targets a 40 yds with both barrels shooting the factory supplied Improved modified in the top barrel and the full choke in the bottom barrel. Overall thoughts: I love this gun. It's light and pointable, and the recoil is acceptable, and I hit well with it. For the price point, I believe this to be a great gun to enter in to the O/U field of shotguns. There are no doubt higher quality O/U's out there but, budget oriented shooters like me could do well with the Savage 555E. I gave this gun a 5 star rating considering guns within its pricepoint. Trying to compare it to a $3-5k O/U would be unreasonable.
