My 14 year old son is...
My 14 year old son is hooked on shooting trap. Purchased the Stevens 555 12 gauge for him and he loves it. Hit 18 out of 25 his first time up. He states it's lite and comfortable with very little recoil. He was reluctant to allow me to shoot it at first and yep he was spot on!! That's the last time he said I could shoot it 😳. So I'm waiting for Buds to get one in stock to purchase one for me 🙃.

Q: What is the difference between 12 and 20 guage. Is one better than the other etc? Thank you; James
Author: James T.
(2) ANSWERS
A: 12 Gauge is a bigger (larger diameter) shell that holds more powder and more pellets/shot than 20 GA. Generally speaking, 12 GA is more powerful and much more common to find than 20 GA. Now, there are some low power 12 GA shell that is less powerful than a 20GA but generally speaking 12 GA will be more powerful given the same style of shell. Remember, the smaller the GA, the bigger the shell. I personally would go with 12 GA as it is easier to find and will work better for sporting. I hope this helps.

A: The quick easy answer is the difference in recoil (how hard the gun is thrust back into your shoulder) 12 Ga is a heavier more powerful round, so therefore is going to recoil a bit harder, 20 Ga shoots a lighter projectile and won't slam as hard into the shooter so it can be better for new or inexperienced shooters, 20Ga while not as powerful is still highly effective as a home defense, or hunting caliber A more detailed comparison here https://www.wideopenspaces.com/12-gauge-vs-20-gauge-which-shotgun-is-better/

Q: Can you shoot 2 3/4" or is it chambered for 3" shells only?
Author: James W.
(4) ANSWERS
A: Since this is a 3 inch chamber it can safely handle 2-3/4 inch shells. Most if not all 3inch chambered shotguns even semi automatics can handle 2-3/4 inch shells. Hope this helps.
Author: Josh T.
A: as a 3 inch chambered gun you can shoot all 12 ga shells 3 inches or shorter soi you can shoot the 1 3/4 inch mini shells the 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch shells
Author: Randy I.
A: josh T all 3 inch guns can shoot any 12 ga shells shorter that 3 inches however semi auto may not function (cycle) and pumps may not feed the shorter shells (1 3/4 mini shells)
Author: Randy I.
A: Randy, yea I always recommend to use higher velocity, or at least not low velocity 2-3/4 inch shells for 3inch chambered semi automatic. Didn't know about the 1-3/4 inch mini shells not functioning correctly in pump actions though, so thanks for the heads up.
